I’m James Kinyari, a Kenyan photographer and the person behind HASHTAG PHOTOGRAPHY.

My photography journey began in 2015, driven by a simple passion for telling stories through images. Today, with more than a decade of experience, photography has become much more than a profession — it is the way I connect with people, places, businesses, and the moments that matter.

For me, photography has never been just about taking a good picture. It’s about people, emotions, places, and the little moments that are easy to overlook but meaningful enough to remember.

Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to photograph people, families, businesses, corporate teams, events, weddings, studios, family portraits, architecture, and real-estate spaces. I’ve also been fortunate to be commissioned for photography assignments beyond Kenya, including projects in Somalia, Tanzania, and Uganda. Each assignment has challenged me to see differently, adapt to new environments, and tell every story with purpose.

I love being behind the camera because it allows me to notice the stories that sometimes go unseen — a genuine smile, a quiet moment, the energy of a celebration, the character of a person, or the beauty and detail within a space.

My approach is simple: keep things authentic, pay attention to the details, and create photographs that feel real. Whether I’m working with an individual, a family, a corporate team, a couple, or a business, my goal is to create images that feel natural, confident, timeless, and true to the moment.

Every assignment is an opportunity to create something that goes beyond the photograph itself — an image that brings back a feeling, tells a story, and remains meaningful years later.
